I had to come through for everybody for this edition of Friday Night Fro. B-Easy was going to bury this movie, but only the real will feel me on this one. This IS THE BEST MOVIE MADE BY A RAPPER. Hands down. The quality might not have been the greatest, the acting wasn’t Oscar-worthy, but as far realness goes…I’m Bout It was that deal! You have a story that is based loosely on the life of Master P and his brothers in the streets of New Orleans. I’m not saying nothing else..enjoy this flick!

When I first heard of Pastor Troy and saw his debut album, I thought his image was a little cheesy. Who would take a rapper in a preacher’s robe seriously? Then I opened the CD and was blown away by the ruggedness and rawness of his music. The stand out track was the down south anthem, “No Mo Play in GA”. The song was the first song Pastor recorded in the 12 hour period that it took to make the album. Once Pastor dropped this song, the game down south has never been the same. A song that was aimed at Master P and the No Limit Army which had a stranglehold on the game at that point, PT was tired of it, and wanted to take a stand. He had the streets on his side, but Master P had money on his. Master P went and bought the masters of Troy’s “debut” and thought that was going to shut him up…WRONG! That just showed PT Cruiser how dirty the game was and made him get his weight up. This is an oldie but goodie, and I don’t care where you from, when this one comes on, EVERYBODY knows all the words and raps along. So sit back..nah bump that…GET CRUNK to this installment of Song of the Week!

I had to dig deep in the crates for this joint; another No Limit joint for your ass. I can’t front people, I was once a No Limit fan too, and me being from the South I was riding with The Tank until they started to release anything to the general mass public. Anyway, this song is from a former No Limit artist name Tre-8 (Rapper/Producer). This song is called “Fright Night” featuring Master P. This track alone is very dark, and dope. Mo B. Dick was in another zone when he produced this cut and I love the violins. This song was made in 1995 during the heavy gangsta rap era (Okay, it’s still is a gangsta rap era). It was released on two CD’s, one CD was from him called Ghetto Stories which was a gangsta album and hard to find. No Limit did their thing on that album, and another CD was Down South Hustlers – Bouncin’ N Swingin’ double disc. This is originally the first double disc rap CD but I guess nobody mention this since its a compilation album instead of being a full Master P album. Many of the guest artists on this CD are from New Orleans and Texas such as Eightball & MJG, Silk (Slikk The Shocker’s name at the time), and a lot of former No Limit artist during that period (Partners N Crime, Magnolia Slim (Soulja Slim R.I.P.), DJ Screw, ESG, etc.). Therefore enjoy the song and listen how No Limit was doing it when they was still in that “Bout It, Bout It”, “Ice Cream Man” stage. Dope shit.

I have to admit that I was once a “No Limit Soldier” like a lot of other people, but with me it was a little different. I really loved that Master P music. Master P is the reason the South took over the rap game in 1997 and never looked back. People don’t recognize his contributions to the rap game. He showed everyone how to make it independently and for the most part he was honest with his contracts. Soon he was flooding the market, proving that there is a limit, he got his hand in anything possible. Clothes, cell phone service, internet, shoes, toys, and finally television! But enough about the man, let’s hear some of the “rowdy rowdy, bout it bout it” Master P! I pulled three of my favorite tracks to let all of you hear. So check it out here goes: “Break ‘Em off Something” featuring UGK, “Bout It, Bout It Part 2″, and “Swamp Ni**a” with TRU! So enjoy this hot trio from Master P!

Sean P returns with another offering (an “official” mixtape) is titled Master P. He features an old school Pen & Pixel cover that mimics Master P’s LP The Last Don. Mr. Price’s latest album comes on the heels of his last album Jesus Price Superstar. With Jesus Price being one of the most slept on albums, one is to wonder how the masses will digest another offering from the BCCC member.

“The 6 Dollar Man” is an intro that steals the beat from the Six Million Dollar Man, the television show, the beat is hot and P opens the album up with a bang. On the title track “M.A.S.T.E.R. P”, the production sounds good, you have good rhymes by Sean P, and Agallah puts up a decent effort. BCCC is a skeptical sounding track, you have Buckshot with a suspect verse, and Tek reemerges with a marginal verse. “The Huckabuck” has some solid production on it and P delivers some solid bars on this one. “All I Know” has a nice beat to it, sounds real vintage. Then on top of that, you got some nice wordplay by both MC’s. On “One Question” you have some sick production, where P asks “who’s nicer than me.” Rustee Juxx and Cousin Reeks get nice on this one also. “Long Fifth Goodnight” is a rip from Biggie’s “Long Kiss Goodnight”. This one has a mixtape feel to it, and Starang resurfaces just to talk trash like Puffy on this one. “Jackass Number 2″ sounds very confusing. You have too much going on with the track; this one isn’t hot at all. “Get it Together” is another vintage sounding beat that Diamond D and Sean P murders! Check this one out! On “Connect 4″ the production is weak and the song isn’t interesting at all. Skip this one. “Knock Em Out The Box” is the next offering with a nice beat that P and Eratik Statik deliver some solid rhymes to. “Legbreakers” follows with Big Shug and his rugged voice that is annoying and an overdone hook, but P seems to salvage the track towards the end. “Jamaican” is the next track that features a loop from Sister Nancy’s classic “Bam Bam” and BDP’s “1, 2, 3″. Again, P rips this one, so check it out! Next is “Fish”, an ode to the chicken of the sea…I think? Glad this one was short; the reference to Avon Barksdale saved the song for me! “Good Fellaz” has a symphony beat in the back, but the track is dull, so you know what to do…SKIP! “Rotten Apple” (remix) featuring Prodigy is next up with a dreary sounding track and the monotone vocals fits New York perfectly. Check this one out. “What’s The Deal” is next and it has a laid back beat and nothing else noteworthy. The album closes with “Psycho Ward” with its crazy production and Sean P closes out his album with a nice track.

Bottom Line:
All in all, this album sounds more like a mixtape than a LP (because it is). This is not a diss; it’s just not as good as Jesus Price Superstar. Some of the production was questionable as well as the collaborations. It’s as if Sean P is carrying the whole BCCC on his back. He went away from the Justus League on this one to favor his home team more and the mixtape reflected it. While this one wasn’t a disaster, it wasn’t all that good either. Maybe they should have kept this one just on the mixtape circuit to build a better buzz for Sean and the Crew!

nappy Picks: “The Huckabuck”, “All I Know”, “One Question”, “Long Fifth Goodnight”, “Get It Together”, “Jamaican”, & “Rotten Apple” (remix)

Download: Sean Price feat. Ruste Juxx & Cousin Reek – “One Question”

What’s up people? It’s that time again where I go on and on about bullshit…but I know y’all love it anyway. It’s actually been an okay week for your boy though. Oh yea, before we get started, I wanna give a huge shot out to St. Louis. People out there been really supporting the site and we really appreciated. Now that that’s out the way, let’s begin.

My Favorite 3 Hot Songs At The Moment

People always ask me, “B-Easy what’s hot right now?” So I thought this would be a good time to check out my iPod and see what the hell I been listening to lately. You know what? Actually it’s not that hard. I think I been rotating three songs lately (I’ll give you links to download them too):

Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, & Pharrell (or CRS) – “Us Placers”: I don’t know who album this will be on, but it’s supposedly from the new group formed by Kanye, Lupe, & Pharrell called CRS (CRS means…I don’t know. I heard like 10 different meanings). The track samples Thom Yorke’s “The Eraser”. Really good.

The Game – “My Bitch”: Whoa. The Game really goes at Suge Knight, Jay-Z, and of course 50 Cent in this song. The beat is supposedly one that Dr. Dre did for Doctor’s Advocate. Who knows anymore? Personally, I think this is Game’s best diss song to date. It’s more “Takeover” than “Hit ‘Em Up”. I like intelligent diss songs…if that’s possible.

Kanye West – “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”: Kanye changes it up again. Besides King Jerm, I think almost everybody is kinda feeling this one. I guess you can say that this is his street single for Graduation. He went and got DJ Toomp for the assistance on the production and samples ad-libs Jeezy from “I Got Money”. The video isn’t that good but the song is hot.

Master P is Black Supaman

You remember when 50 Cent said that Master P wasn’t relevant anymore? I’m starting to believe him. Come on P, you had to go and do this? This shit looks terrible.

Tecmo Bowl Returns

Okay, this is one for the old heads. Video game maker Tecmo announced last month that they will bring back the game Tecmo Bowl in 2008. Oh yea, it’s not an Xbox or Wii download either; it’s supposedly is an update. I love Madden, but Tecmo Bowl was my first love. I got the 85’ Chicago Bears!

Problems with the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Review

*This is from an e-mail sent by Morris (What’s up Morris!):

I read the review on Bone’s Strength & Loyalty

I have a question for the person that reviewed it.

“Would you have given any of Bone’s older Albums a better grade, and if so which ones?”

Much like you I don’t listen to Bone that much, but i had the chance to listen to East 1999, Art of War and Creepin on a come up because my friend is Bone’s #1 Fan. I have to say that “Strength & Loyalty” sounded like their best album, I like it for it’s diversity, the lyrics are strong and the beats are nice,

Unlike most rap albums to day, you have more than two songs would be a hit on the charts for example Lil Love, I’ Tried, Candy Paint, Wind Blow and Bumps in that trunk.

Also they are not talking about the same thing the whole entire time ; it’s really the first rap album that’s not degrading women that I heard in a long time.

You can’t help but notice that Bone’s lyrics have matured, just listen to layzie, Krayz and wish verses in lil love vs Bow Wow, the nature of bow wow’s verse is that he is still a player and bone’s verses are about string to save their relationships, they’re not playing child games, yes bow wow is out of place

Over all i think Bone did a good job on this album, its better than most of the stuff i hear on the radio any way

The “order my steps song”, it may be on a gangster rap but it serves a great purpose, l liked the song

First of all Morris, thanks for the e-mail. Even though you do sound like a big Bone Thugs fan, you had some good points. I just wanted people to see a different point of view. I still stand by my review though (Click here to read it).

This is by far my favorite video out right now. Shit, it looks like the South is still killing it and showing unity (David Banner & Three 6 Mafia show up too). It feels like it 1999 or 2000 all over again when both UGK and Outkast was hot.
