This week we had five Hip-Hop albums debut and (surprisingly) we reviewed all of them. It’s also a week of answered questions like: “Will the fans forgive Chris Brown and support his new album?” or “Will Gucci’s mixtape success transfer to commercial sales?”. I’m not sure if these question where actually answered this week, but we can looked at the sale figures anyway…

Chris Brown finally made his return to the shelves with his 3rd album Graffiti and lands at #7. And at least 100,000 fans showed support for Chris. That’s not to say that he couldn’t have sold more: Brown himself said he couldn’t even find his cd’s at Wal-Mart himself. Personally, he may have needed more time for the fans to love him again (He did punch Rihanna this year right?). Also, don’t feel so entitled youngster. I also barely listened to this album.

Even behind bars, the show went on and Gucci Mane released his highly anticipated The State Vs. Roderick Davis. Now, we have a few ways to look at this album as success or not (Commercially). He sold 90,000 and made it to the Top 10. King Jerm told me it was a win; “He conned that many people into not going to the internet or barbershop bootleg man and buying his album”. Our homeboys over at The Carter Cartel asked “Where the fans at?”. I don’t like Gucci’s music so it really doesn’t matter to me (*Stares at V-G*)

The Doggfather Snoop Dogg’s Malice In Wonderland lands at a semi-respectable #23. I’ll second what Saule said in his review. I still respect Snoop though.

Did Gucci almost triple what Timbaland’s Shock Value II first week sales. Yep. Hannah Montana features don’t mean shit these days. Timbo lands at #36.

Clipse return to the charts after three years with Til The Casket Drop. I finally got to listen to the album in it’s entirety and I’ll go out on a limb and say this album is their most complete (H20 probably put it better though). The Thorton Brothers land at #46 and move over 30,000 albums.

Lastly, B.G. returns with Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood and debuts #77. I didn’t like the album, but other people did. I don’t think selling 18,000 is bad at all though.

Sidenote: Does anybody else see what Michael Jackson is doing. Still killing ‘em.

Gucci Mane has definitely carved his own lane in Hip-Hop. He took his street heavy image and somehow made songs with The Black Eye Peas, Mariah Carey, and Mario but STAYED HOOD the whole time while doing it. Not too many rappers can tip toe the line between streets and mainstream like that, but Gucci has done it. Now that he is signed to a major label (Warner Bros.) this could be a breakout moment for Gucci and his crew. Let’s see if he can perform under all of the pressure.

Gucci comes out the gate with some of his best lyrics to date. You just can’t understand what he’s saying sometime. I know he said something about they don’t listen to Blueprint 3 and you not gone fuck him like Raz B. FUNNY. The beat isn’t one that I would expect Gooch to rap on, but he did it. GOOD START.

This is your typical Gucci song that all of his fans have grown to love. I don’t know what more you can ask for from Gucci…this is what he does. HOT.

I have to say the beat on this one is FIRE! Once again Gucci is “doing him” on the track, the highlight on the track is Weezy; he might be at the top of his game right now. Cam makes an appearance and I have to say that Gucci and Cam is the same person, just from two different places.

All About The Money
Featuring Rick Ross; Produced by Drumma Boy
Rick Ross and Gucci on the same track? I’m in HEAVEN! I have to applaud Gucci for holding his own against the Boss, but Ross out shined him on the track. So far so good for Gucci.

Lemonade
Produced by Bangladesh
I was wondering what this song could be about, but Gucci lets you know quickly. I can’t front…I like this song. The beat is DOPE, Gucci’s flow fits right in with it, and the hook is catchy. This will is be a HOOD HIT.

Bingo
Featuring Soulja Boy Tell Em’ & Waka Flocka Flame; Produced by Scott Storch
Gucci isn’t being frugal with the production on this album is he? My boy Soulja Boy makes an appearance along with Waka Flocka on this one. First thing I notice is that Beezy is dropping lines on this one. I got to give it to him on this one, “the tools on deck, I ain’t talking Home Depot” and the “haters want to hate they’ll get shot like a free throw” showed me something. BANGER!

Spotlight
Featuring Usher; Produced by Polow Da Don
I know this is an ATL thing, but I really don’t want to hear Gucci make songs like this. I know he has to, but this is taking it too far. NO HOMO, I just don’t see Gucci as a sex symbol. SKIP!

I Think I’m In Love
Featuring Jason Caesar; Produced by Zaytoven
Okay, I guess the album has taken a turn towards the females. This is not how I wanted to hear Zaytoven’s first beat. I can’t really rock with this one.

Bad Bad Bad
Featuring Keyshia Cole; Produced by FATBOI
Okay, I didn’t like the previous two songs, but this song is a HOOD COLLAB. I have to say that FATBOI is on his way, he is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers. My girl Keyshia did her usual, but the production won me over on this one.

Sex In Crazy Places

Nicki Minaj is clearly staking her claim as the top female emcee in the game. She comes through and sets this one off right. I have to say again that FATBOI puts together a nice beat, and everyone worked together well on the track. GOOD SONG.

The Movie

I usually don’t like Jazze Pha, but he gave Gucci a pretty good beat to rock with. Gucci gets on the track and do what he usually does, DO HIM. Gucci sticks to the script and goes with what he knows.

Volume
Featuring Wooh da Kid: Produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League
Like I said earlier, he spared no expense on the production for his “sophomore” album. This sounds like something that would be on one of his mixtapes, and this is the Gucci that I like hearing. On the Gucci Scale…this song is FIRE!

Gingerbread Man
Featuring OJ Da Juiceman; Produced by Mannie Fresh
This doesn’t sound like your typical Mannie Fresh beat, but that’s a good thing. Gucci rips this one before the most annoying rapper in the game comes in. Gingerbread Man? Really? Take out OJ’s verse and this song is DOPE.

Wasted
Featuring Plies; Produced by FATBOI
This might be the song that catapulted Gucci into “White America”. This song is played at ALL clubs. FATBOI delivers another banger, and the boys have a CLUB ANTHEM on their hands. BANGER!

Kush In My Cologne
Featuring E-40, Devin the Dude & Bun-B; Produced by Drumma Boy
This might be my favorite song off the album. This is for all the people out there that like to indulge into the “greener” things in life. This song isn’t that deep, but if you appreciate the “greener” things in life, you will enjoy this song.

Worst Enemy
Produced by Drumma Boy
This is Gucci’s third single and Gucci gets kind of personal on the track. Gucci is never going to WOW you with lyrics; he just takes the beats and raps along to them.

How could they make the original better? Add Jada, Weezy, & Birdman.

Bottom Line:
Gucci delivered under the pressure. This album isn’t going to win Album of the Year awards, but this one is a SOLID release for Gucci Mane. He had top notch production from some of the best in the game. He had A List features. Like I said earlier, no expense was spared on this album. After beating up the mixtape market up over the last year or so, people wondered if he could do it on an album. HE DID. Whether or not you like Gucci’s music; you have to give this album its due. Gucci stayed HOOD, but also made songs that could be considered mainstream. If he didn’t show growth from first album to second album, I don’t know what you can call it.

In this edition we got Timbaland featuring Jigga & Miss Keri Baby, Gucci Mane jumps on 50’s remix, and Weezy gives us a glimpse of his No Ceilings mixtape. By now you know you should have you iPod set to Hustle right? Well…

Don’t get too excited Jigga stans fans, it’s mostly a Keri Hilson R&B track featuring Jay-Z (A quick verse too). That’s not a bad thing but it’s what you’d expect from Timbo and Keri at this point. It’s supposedly gonna be on Tim’s Shock Value 2. Sidenote: Miley Cyrus is gonna on Shock Value 2?

Download: 50 Cent feat. Gucci Mane – “Crime Wave (remix)”
The beat on this one goes hard and the original version of “Crime Wave” quickly made it to my iPod (Check out the music video here). And then 50 had to add Gucci Mane to the remix. I honestly don’t have a problem with Gucci but let’s be real; What does his add to the track? Sidenote: What’s the name of the sample used on “Crime Wave”? The same one was used on Jay-Z’s “Public Service Announcement (9th Wonder Remix)” and on Fabolous’ “This Is Family”. Update: Okay, Gucci’s verse wasn’t that bad.

Of course the big news in Hip-Hop at the moment is Weezy pleading guilty to gun charges in New York and possibly getting a year in prison (NY don’t play about guns. Word to Plaxico & Shyne!). This track are from his soon to be released mixtape No Ceilings (Which is suppose to contain no Auto-Tune or features and drops Oct. 31st). By now by the titles I’m sure you guess what instrumentals he goes over but if this is a return to the Dedication 1-2/Squad Up days…I don’t know if this is that. Either way, shout out the Lil’ Wayne. I’m sure we’ll have enough music to hold us over for 10 years (If need be).

All new music for this edition of iPod Hustle. Mostly good too. In this go around: Jezzy tells us why trappin’ ain’t dead, Juelz mixes up the medicine, and Gucci (With the help of Usher) goes for the spotlight. Set your iPods to Hustle…now.

I remember seeing a video of Young Jeezy performing this song at Club Dreams and I was feeling it then. Yep, it sounds like The Snowman is taking it back to 2005 with this one. If this track is a sign of what kinda music will be on Thug Motivation 103, I’m looking forward to it (Plus I’ve been bumping Jay-Z’s “As Real As It Gets” a lot lately). Sidenote: I thought Zaytoven was Gucci’s favorite go to producer? (Zaytoven explains here)

Juelz hooks up with Alabama’s own YelaWolf to create a certified street banger. As soon as I heard that hook I was sold. Partner that with that fact that Santana sounds motivated again (The last time I remember that happening was at the 2008 BET Hip-Hop Awards): ”Take her out and trick around/I take her home and dick her down/Send her back to you like ‘Baby I was at my sister house’”. Hopefully this is the Juelz Santana we’ve been waiting for. Remember, his last album did go Platinum.

Wow, Gucci Mane is in another one of my posts? I guess this is what the young kids are listening to these days. On this one Gucci Mane grabs Usher and puts on his best commercial clothes. Not to sound like a hater but the flow on this song is garbage. I don’t even listen to Gucci, but I think even some of his biggest fans will probably gives this a so-so rating. The State vs. Radric Davis is supposed to drop in December.

I know this mixtape series came out last night, and believe this or not, but B-Easy really wanted to do this. He didn’t want his name associated with it, so he passed it to me. I guess he didn’t want you guys to know that he is a closet Gucci Mane fan. Oh well, since he is scared to admit the truth, King Jerm will give the people what they want. How better to celebrate making MTV’s 10 Hottest MC’s list than to release a TRILOGY of mixtapes! WHO DOES THAT? Ya’ll might not like his music, but Gucci loves his fans and he gives them what they want. All I can say about this is…DOWNLOAD. Gucci may never come out with an official album, and if I was him, I WOULDN’T. You can’t transfer this type buzz over to album sales.

Okay, let’s get this straight from the door: I don’t personally listen to Gucci Mane’s music. Never have and probably (And hopefully) never will. The only reason this mixtape will be gracing the front page is because King Jerm is at a Jonas Brothers’ concert unavailable right now and he asked me to post this. I didn’t catch the first DJ Drama assisted The Movie mixtape and I won’t be listening to this one either. I can’t lie though, Gucci does have the streets on smash right about now. But the title of “The World’s Most Ignorant Rapper” rests with La Flare. Uh, Enjoy?

This one goes out to the DIRTY. “Trial Time” is by an artist that goes by the name of The Last Mr. Bigg. he is straight out of Mobile, Alabama and was really doing the Gucci Mane thing back then. He got released from prison in 1998, released an album in 2000 titled Only If You Knew, which had some underground hood bangers on it. The song that made the most noise was “Trial Time”, but it didn’t really get big until 2002 when it hit the radios and video shows that summer. The main draw to Donald Pears isn’t his music, but a $100K diamond that replaced his eye after doctors had to remove it following a 2004 shooting (two times to the dome). Now if you survive a shooting, I think that its okay to have a diamond as an eyeball. If you didn’t know, he is the same guy who did the hook on what might be Three Six Mafia’s best song “Poppin My Collar”.  I’m sure P-Body will disagree with that, but HE knows. Well you knuckleheads, this is King Jerm giving you one of my guilty pleasures, yes the song is ignorant, but I LOVE THIS SONG.
