The Numbers Game: Golden (by B-Easy)

Okay, I got like 20 minutes to get this The Numbers Game up (I’ve never been late on one before). No debuts this week so there’s not a lot of difference from last week. I guess the only thing I can say about this week is that in a month or so, Ludacris, Keyshia Cole, Jamie Foxx, John Legend, & T-Pain will go Gold. It looks like January will be a slow month… Read more

Damn, it’s 2009 already? After almost doing this column 40 times now, it still feels like I just started this yesterday. What does ‘09 hold for Hip-Hop on the charts? We’ll see a new Eminem album, maybe Detox, hopefully Blueprint 3 as well as a host of other releases (January looks slack as hell by the way). But before we get to that, here’s the first edition of the Numbers Game for the new year. Read more

Damn, I’m really running late on this edition of The Numbers Game (What you want me to do? I have a life!). What’s weird is that this week surprisingly featured a lot of debuts. We have one Hip-Hop artist and three R&B artists debuting in the Top 50 this week. Common’s 8th album, Universal Mind Control, takes the 12th spot on the charts and pushes around 80,000 copies. Lucky number 8. Okay, maybe it’s lucky number 7, but how else do you approach an album as anticipated as this one from Common? After the commercial successes of Be and Finding Forever (2 gold albums back to back), 3 movies, and a sag card to his name, the streets was watchin’ for this album. There has been a buzz about this album being different and more club friendly as are most of the releases this year, but what does Read more

How do you label Ludacris? Is he a southern rapper? Is he a Hip-Hop mogul? Is he a rapper-turned actor? To me Luda is all of these, and none of these. When you think southern rap, you think of guys like Shawty LO, Soulja Boy, & Gucci Mane. I hope everyone can agree that Ludacris is on another level compared to those dudes. When I think of the word mogul, I imagine Russell Simmons, Jay-Z, & Suge Knight. These are people Read more

It’s been 3 years since The Game dropped his multi-platinum debut The Documentary. Since then, a lot has changed for the Compton sensation. He’s beef with a plethora of rappers, gotten/covered up numerous tattoos, been seen on multiple magazine covers imitating suicide, cried publicly about Hip-Hop and Sean Bell, released a sophomore album Read more

There’s Common, Kanye, Lupe, and now you can add the Kidz In The Hall to that list of real artists in the industry representing Chi-City. When I got the call to handle the review of Kidz In The Hall’s second album The In Crowd I was very excited for multiple reasons. Read more
