St. Patrick’s Day have never really meant anything to me. Since I’m not a drinker or even remotely Irish, it never was a big deal. Hell, according to King Jerm, Black folks shouldn’t even celebrate the “holiday”.

But for the past few years when St. Patrick’s Day comes around, one thing comes to mind: Mobile, Alabama. Yes Mobile, you took an L the day NBC 15 sent a camera crew down to investigate some leprechaun sightings. And over 13,ooo,ooo YouTube views later it’s still one of the most funny & ignorant things on the net. Everything is here to make this a viral video classic: You have your famous quotes (“Who else seen the leprechaun say yea!”), the “amateur” sketch, or even the theory that instead of a leprechaun it could be a crackhead. South Park even gave it a parody (I wonder did dude get money off of that?).

So yea, this is what I think about when St. Patrick’s Day comes to mind. Besides, the only leprechaun I know is in Houston (See what I did there?).

This is about how the alleged picture leaker wants $100,000 for these cell phone taken images. Really? With this economy being the way it is right now plus the fact that the pictures aren’t even of the vintage year 2000 Trina (Before this happen), dude has to be smoking something powerful to think he can get more that $500 for those pics (And that’s being generous). You were so close to getting a DMF award homie. But hey, we all got to make a living right? Watch out for the FBI though…

Sidenote: I know it would have made since to post the pics/video, but I don’t think anyone can find them anymore. Holla at King Jerm if you do though.

I was looking over the Starting 5 (Group Edition) column and wanted to clear a few things up. I think no matter what, Wu-Tang Clan and A Tribe Called Quest should always remain in the starting lineup. However, anyone on my list can change from bench to starter depending on what kind of mood I’m in. For this week, OutKast is definitely in my top 5. I felt my best way of showing my appreciation is hitting nappyafro with “The Art Of Storytellin’ Part 4″ for the song of the week. The song dropped on DJ Drama’s debut album in 2007, and was overshadowed by a few weak singles off the album. Here, Andre 3000 absolutely bodies the track. His verse on this is nothing to play with, and that’s why he should always get mentioned up there with one of the greatest lyricists of all time. I added in the lyrics so you can see for yourself…

Cannon… (Cannon…)

[Verse 1: Andre 3000]
So I’m watchin’ her fine ass
Walk to my bedroom, and thought to myself
That’s the shape of things to come
She said, Why you in the club, you don’t make it precipitate?
You know, make it rain when you can make it thunderstorm
I’m like, Why?
The world needs sun
The hood needs funds
There’s a war going on and half the battle is guns
How dare I throw it on the floor
When people are poor
So I write like Edgar Allen to restore, got a cord-
Umbilical attached to a place that can’t afford
No landscaping, Or window draping
This old lady told me,
If I ain’t got nothin’ good, say nathing
That’s why I don’t talk much
I swear it don’t cost much, to pay attention to me
I tell like it is, and I tell it how it could be
The hood be
Requesting my services, Oh don’t get nervous it’s
Step yo game up time, These ain’t them same old rhymes
Designed to have you dancin’ in some club
Niggas write to me
Woman be up in they tub
Expoliating with hey pom poms
Yellin’ GO 3000!
I’m in my whatever bumpin’ Mois
A 100 miles in
Runnin’ Runnin’ Runnin’ Runnin’
Summon
Woman
Come in
Sit down, heard you need some plumbing
Done in
I’m in
A swell mood
A rather swoll mood
Until she told me that she told dude
That she’ll be back, she’s going to the store
I didn’t know she had a boyfriend, so the door
I pointed her to
I said, Call me when ya’ll break up
I don’t fuck nobody bitch
And never own a Jacob, know what time it is
Nigga just tryin’ to live
Like a Nigga supposed to live
If I still drink that malt liquor
I pour the beer
On the ground for niggas not around
I started off starvin’
Now they got me out here Brett Farve’n
Trynna see if I still got it… (got it…)
I guess it’s like a bike think about it…
(oh oh oh no no)
… bout it… bout it… (oh oh oh no no)
Oh oh oh…

[Chorus: Marsha Ambrosius]
Nothin gonna stop us now
You can’t stop us
What you gonna do right now
You can’t run
We the boss in here we floss this shit cause
Ain’t nobody doin it like we do oh no

Nothin gonna stop us now
You can’t stop us
What you gonna do right now
You can’t front we the-
Boss in here we floss this shit cause
Ain’t nobody doin it like we do oh no
Oh oh oh no (OH NO)
Oh oh oh no (OH NO)
Oh oh oh no (OH NO)
They can’t stop us
Oh oh oh NO!

[Verse 2: Big Boi]
So I Peep this bitch in BIP
I used to clip like Rob the barber
It seems she couldn’t shape up
Cupcake her I didn’t bother
She’s a follower a hell of a swallower
Not a leader,
Got her 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string
I didn’t need her.
I didn’t mean to treat her
Like she was the main feature
Presentation, heard ya’s a traitor
To the situation, more like a hassle
Because she had no keys to the castle
The queen sits on the throne
While this hoe ride down Old National
(ZOOM) gone head’ hoe beat ya feet
DR-DR-Drop down and get yo eagle on freak
We ever-so-discreet with this meat
Got a whole lot to lose if paparazzi
Ever shot or shoot we
Meaning me and you
Us together in the lens
My ends would be gone
Just like some dro in the wind
Told da hoe you gonna win
Sho’ nuff we gone pretend
To the land of make believe
Now come on and hit this hen…
Taking shots to the neck
Now that’s love in ya mou-outh (Oh Oh Oh No No)
Now we’re affiliates
So don’t give me the gangsta grill (Oh Oh Oh No No)
No drama it makes no sense
I got a mean ass backhand (Oh Oh Oh)
And a (CANNONNN) that don’t miss.

[Chorus: Marsha Ambrosius]
Nothin gonna stop us now
You can’t stop us
What you gonna do right now
You can’t run
We the boss in here we floss this shit cause
Ain’t nobody doin it like we do oh no

Nothin gonna stop us now
They can’t stop us

[DJ Drama:]
I Realized recently,
That I was born for this position!
I took the fall for Hip-Hop!

I’ll let you in on a little background info about B-Easy. I’m not a weed smoker. Never have and probably never will. But that just goes to show you that you don’t have to be one to like Devin The Dude’s music. Not saying that all potheads like his music; I don’t think King Jerm is too fond of it.

Other than probably being one of the most underrated Hip-Hop artist, Devin The Dude has the kind of music that just makes you relax. Sometimes when life is crazy or your in the middle of a f@cked up work week, tracks like “Who’s That Man Momma” or “What A Job” can mellow you out a little and let you relax. What’s my favorite Devin track? “Doobie Ashtray” off Just Tryin’ Ta Live. Who knew that DJ Premier and Devin The Dude could make such great music together (Then again, both have strong Texas ties…). This track also makes Ludacris’ line on “MVP” a lie: “The first southern rapper on a Premo beat”. Naw Chris; beat you by six years.

Download: Devin The Dude – “Doobie Ashtray”
Bonus: Devin The Dude – “What I Be On”

Sidenote #1: I also included Devin’s new single off his upcoming album Room #420.
Sidenote #2: The fact that I haven’t made Just Tryin’ Ta Live a Classic Material is sad.

Okay, ya’ll might think King Jerm is tripping with this one, but I had to take it WAAAAAAY back with this one. This song came on at a bar the other night and the place went crazy! Before you say this isn’t Hip-Hop, the song features Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest and it has a cameo from the one and only Bootsy Collins. Not only is Dee-Light’s “Groove Is In The Heart” a instant party starter, but its a crazy video! Sit back and enjoy this installment of Song of the Week!

I also wanted to send a personal birthday shout out to my godson..H2O..Happy Birthday my dude!

Even though the Jets didn’t do the unthinkable and make it to the big game (Yes, I may be the only lifelong Jets fan out of Georgia) or even though Farve didn’t give his story a happy ending with that lame ass pass, I’m still excited about Super Bowl XLIV. You might be even one of those people who believe the game is already predetermined like King Jerm (As he ranted about on the recent FROCAST), but even the spectacle of the Super Bowl brings everybody in (The commercials, the halftime show, the Super Bowl parties, etc.). So on this Sunday, who you going for? Colts or Saints?

The appropriate pick for this Song of the Week is Slim Thugga’s “Luv This Game”. The song was on the leaked version of Already Platinum; it was a better than the version that actual got released, but both are slept on.

Even though we’re a Hip-Hop site, I think it’s safe to say that everyone on nappyafro Staff has a little geek inside them (Some more than others). So when new gadgets come out, you know nappyafro is interested. If you’ve been on web today (Twitter or Facebook specifically), you know that Steve Jobs (After years of speculation) finally revealed the much rumored iTablet iPad. Engadget had the scoop:

After nearly a decade of rumors and speculation, Apple’s finally unveiled the iPad. It’s a half-inch thick and weighs just 1.5 pounds, with a 9.7-inch capacitive touchscreen IPS LCD display, and it’s running a custom 1GHz Apple “A4″ chip developed by the P.A. Semi team, with a 10-hour battery life and a month of standby. It’ll come in 16, 32, and 64GB sizes, and it’s got the expected connectivity: very little. There’s a 30-pin Dock connector, a speaker, a microphone, Bluetooth, 802.11n WiFi and optional 3G, as well as an accelerometer and a compass. There’s also a keyboard dock, which connects underneath in the portrait orientation, support for up to 1024×768 VGA out and 480p composite out through new dock adapter cables, and a camera attachment kit that lets you import photos from your camera over USB or directly through an SD reader. The device is managed by iTunes, just like the iPhone — you sync everything over to your Mac. As expected, it can run iPhone apps — either pixel-for-pixel in a window, or pixel-doubled fullscreen — but developers can also target the new screen size using the updated iPhone OS SDK, which is available today. The 3G version runs on AT&T and comes with new data plans: 250MB for $14.99 and an unlimited plan for $29.99 a month contract-free. Activations are handled on the iPad, so you can activate and cancel whenever you want. Every iPad is unlocked and comes with a GSM “micro-SIM,” so you can use it abroad, but there aren’t any international deals in place right now — Steve says they’ll be back “this summer” with news on that front.

It starts at $499 for 16GB, 32GB for $599, and $699 64GB. Adding 3G costs a $130 per model, so the most expensive model (64GB / 3G) is $829. The WiFi-only model will ship in 60 days, and the 3G models will come in 90.

So to commemorate the day the Apple fanboys went crazy, this edition of Song of the Week will be Mayer Hawthorne’s “Shiny & New”. It fits right? So check out more pics of the iPad (I liked the iTablet name better) and then grab the Hawthorne track. Sidenote: If you haven’t picked up A Strange Arrangement, you need to do so ASAP.

The man right chea! No, he really is right here! Michael Tyler aka Mystikal was released from a Louisiana State Prison this week after serving six years. Crazy how time flies, but it seemed like only yesterday when the “Prince of the South” was topping charts and releasing Platinum and Gold albums. Being a former “No Limit Soldier” this pleases me more than a little bit. He’s served his time, now I hope he can get back in the booth and release some new music.
King Jerm is always getting accused of liking the mainstream stuff, while I can admit to being the one on staff to embrace the new school, I still know about “real” Hip-Hop people. I can be close minded when it comes to music now, for example, when I don’t buy into your gimmick, I will not listen to you. Take for instance your boy MF Doom, Doom, or whatever he goes by. I couldn’t take him serious because of his mask that he wears. So I never listened to him. The other day my boy John Doe put me onto a song by him titled “Batty Boy”. I was taken over by the way he was just SPITTING over a SICK beat. The song made me want to throw on some GTA and go on a couple of rampages. He kind of reminds me of what Ol’ Dirty would sound like without the “Drunken Flow”. See, I still listen to “real” Hip-Hop from time to time. I hope everyone enjoys this installment of Song of the Week!
