Statik Selektah|Stick 2 The Script (by SBK)
October 20, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 9 Comments

Back in June of this year I brought Statik Selektah to nappyafro in the form of a Rewind Review of his debut release album Statik Selektah Presents Spell My Name Right (The Album). Being the underground Hip Hop head that I am, I was anticipating this album along with Termanology’s album Politics As Usual last month, especially after seeing the video for the song “To The Top (Stick To The Script)”. Now one month and one release later Read more
Jake One|White Van Music (by SBK)

After taking some time to clean up my apartment, which entailed listening and going through over 100 unlabeled CD’s (I’m never making a “mixtape/playlist” CD-R ever again, it’s strictly iTunes/iPod only from now on), I decided to sit back and listen to Jake One’s latest release entitled White Van Music. Being a bigger fan of underground Hip Hop Read more
Devin The Dude|Landing Gear (by B-Easy)

How can someone who has worked with the likes of Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, R. Kelly, Nas, & Outkast still fly under the mainstream radar? Well, I’m sure Devin The Dude would also like an answer to that question. While he seems to be a favorite within the industry and be part of high attention albums, when it comes to his own work, Devin seems to never get the light he deserves Read more
Ill Bill|The Hour of Reprisal (by Guy Fawkes)

I was reading comments people posted, and it seemed like a large number of people actually were interested in an review of this album. I am a huge fan of Ill Bill and Non Phixion Records in general, so I thought why not?I can’t front and pretend I know all about Ill Bill so this summary will be fairly short. Started off rhyming with his brother, Necro, someone you should definitely check out if you haven’t already. Read more
Big Kuntry King|My Turn To Eat (by King Jerm)

After spending years alongside T.I., Big Kuntry King never was one that clamored for the limelight. Now it is his turn to shine. Having to take the backseat to his boss and label mate Young Dro, Big Kuntry’s debut album My Turn to Eat is ready to hit the streets. Loyalty and patience doesn’t mean much in today’s Hip-Hop scene. Heltah Skeltah|D.I.R.T. (by Guy Fawkes)

Yeah, I know the album cover is just fucking ridiculous. But name one Hip-Hop head who hasn’t been waiting for this album to drop. Forscore and 12 years ago, Heltah Skeltah released an equally goofy album cover, both rappers hanging from the sky… in Twista Kamikaze fashion. As goofy as that album cover was, the music inside was gritty as hell…if you haven’t yet heard Nocturnal, it should definitely be on your to-do list of Golden Age Hip-Hop. Read more
Termanology|Politics As Usual (by SBK)
October 2, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 7 Comments

It was two years ago when I heard a song titled “Watch How It Go Down” and heard the lyrics “Rapper that’s lyrical slash Latin/Political passed rappin’/With visuals past Malcolm/And fittin’ to go past platinum”. That was my introduction to an emcee from Lawrence, MA named Termanology. I didn’t know much about Termanology then but from what I heard he was one that I would be looking out for. Read more
Large Professor|Main Source (by Guy Fawkes)
October 1, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 5 Comments

I remember when I was 8 years old walking home from school, and I’d hear Large Professor’s voice booming over a car stereo as I walked by. To this day, I won’t forget that Main Source brought me into Hip-Hop, real Hip-Hop nonetheless. I grew up in Toronto, Canada and probably because of the lack of homegrown cats we had, everyone Read more
T.I.|Paper Trail (by H20)
September 30, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 53 Comments

At the end of summer, when I was reviewing absolute shit albums like Yung Berg’s and V.I.C.’s, I was just looking forward the album that I had been waiting for since the beginning of the year: Paper Trail, which had been announced in February on StreetCred.com. I was still hungry for more after T.I. vs. T.I.P.; it wasn’t that it was a bad Read more
Murs|Murs For President (by B-Easy)

After years grinding it out as a mainstay on the independent scene, Murs returns with his 7th album (Or 20th, depending on who you ask). What makes this album different from previous outings? This album, Murs For President, officially marks Murs first trek into a bigger arena since this is his first album on a major label (Warner Bros.). Read more
