The Game|L.A.X. (by B-Easy)

August 25, 2008

It’s been 3 years since The Game dropped his multi-platinum debut The Documentary. Since then, a lot has changed for the Compton sensation. He’s beef with a plethora of rappers, gotten/covered up numerous tattoos, been seen on multiple magazine covers imitating suicide, cried publicly about Hip-Hop and Sean Bell, released a sophomore album Read more

Nappy Roots|The Humdinger (by SBK)

August 23, 2008

Not being a huge fan of the group Nappy Roots, I haven’t really been to big on them since their debut album Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz released in 2002, which featured the hit singles “Awnaw” and “Po’ Folks”. This is their third studio album since their 2003 release Wooden Leather Read more

Elzhi|The Preface (by Thic Flair)

Jay Dilla’s influence in Hip-Hop will probably live on forever. One of the cornerstones of his career is the Slum Village crew which has grown to include Elzhi. Even when he left the group, Dilla’s influence and beats remained with the crew even after Elzhi came on. Folks have been clamoring for this solo album for a long time, does he deliver? Read more

One of the most influential persons in Hip-Hop returns with his second independent release titled Raw Footage. After selling more than 600K units with his last offering Laugh Now, Cry Later, Cube found out that you don’t have to shop your albums with the majors if your paper is straight. Read more

GZA|Pro Tools (by B-Easy)

August 18, 2008

Gary Grice, better know as the GZA/Genius, has continued to stick with the rugged Wu-Tang style he help invent and popularize in the 90’s (Even when at times it might not be the most appealing to the average Rap fan). When the Wu was at their best, he was arguably the most lyrical of the bunch. Read more

Yung Berg|Look What You Made Me (by H20)

August 14, 2008

lookwhatyoumademecover1.jpg

When I personally asked King Jerm for this album to review, he thought I was crazy: there has been a lot of talk about Yung Berg; his comments about “dark butts”…don’t get me started on that one. I chose this album to review because, despite my own mixed feelings about Berg, I feel that I’d be fairest opinion on staff, being the youngest and the one who doesn’t completely hate Berg. Outlawz|We Want In: The Street LP (by SBK)

August 11, 2008

When you think of the Outlawz the first thing that immediately comes to mind is their association with the late legendary Tupac Shakur. The group, which was founded by Shakur following his release from prison in 1995, is best known for their feature on 2Pac’s hit song “Hit ‘Em Up”. Since Tupac’s untimely death, the Outlawz have managed to progress on and keep the music going with this being their fifth group album release. Read more

Re-Up Gang|Clipse Presents: Re-Up Gang (by H2O)

August 6, 2008

61uv2eq98ul_ss500_.jpgThe Clipse are often a slept on Hip-Hop group, and most of the time, the artists in Hip-Hop that we sleep on are usually the most clever and are arguably the best, while we bow down to Lil’ Wayne, Jay-Z, or Nas for best rapper alive. People like Lupe Fiasco, Crooked I, AZ, and Clipse all fit into this mold. Read more

Reks|Grey Hairs (by SBK)

July 29, 2008

It’s been over a month since I last dropped a review (Deified by Keak Da Sneak), but SBK is back in the building back at the ‘fro. Since my time away in dealing with summer hell aka Summer School, I’ve been keeping an eye up on nappyafro and an ear out on the music. Being the Hip-Hop head that I am, I’m an active listener of the underground scene far more than the commercial bullshit that’s released. Read more

MJG|This Might Be the Day (by King Jerm)

July 26, 2008

mjgthismightbetheday.jpg

MJG is already a legend in Hip-Hop, so not too much introduction is needed in that regard. However, his solo career has been much different from his group albums. You can think of 8Ball & MJG like Outkast, they are great together, but they do not seem right separated. MJG received some critical acclaim for his debut No More Glory back in 1997, but that was ‘97. Read more
