August 26, 2008

What’s good, nappyafro? I had to step out for a minute to take care of some school work, but I’m back with another column straight from The Stoop. Remember that Vibe Magazine vote I told you about? If you don’t, about a month or two ago, Vibe decided that they would settle who is the best rapper alive once and for all Read more

Welcome to another edition of Boomin’ From The Stoop with ya’ boy H20! For all the newcomers out there, its when I talk about what I’m currently boomin’ from my stoop! The Kings of the South: “Wish You Would” (by H20)

As soon as I heard a track called: “Wish You Would” with Luda feat. T.I., I had to make this post. Their battle has raged on for as long as I can remember; it wasn’t even direct, but mainly subliminal most of the time, starting when T.I. called himself “King of The South”, a title which has caused tons of controversy with other Southern artists. The King Lives On… (by H20)

Alright, like you all know, T.I. has claimed several times to be the “King of the South”, which has caused a lot of beefs in his career, including with Lil’ Flip (Pardon me: I had to laugh at that…), and more prominently, Ludacris: I’m still waiting on a full-out lyrical war between those two; it could be a southern throwback to the Nas vs. Jay-Z thing. Anyway, beyond King of the South, T.I. has been known to be the only famous rapper from Bankhead Read more

Boomin’ From The Stoop: Philadelphia Freeway STILL On His Grind (by H20)

It seemed like Freeway was absolutely finished after getting dropped by the NEW Def Jam President, L.A. Reid in May. Jay was powerless to do anything since Roc-A-Fella is now owned by Def Jam, and Freeway was saved by a joint-venture: I guess now he’s signed to G-Unit or something, since he had a joint venture between Roc-A-Fella and G-Unit, but you know how they’re doing Read more

Vibe’s Best Rapper Alive Tournament (by H20)

July 18, 2008

vibesbestrapperalive.jpg

I was on the internet and I saw a thing Vibe was doing to settle once and for all who is the best rapper alive. They made a bracket type thing to have the readers vote on who is the best; it’s like the March Madness brackets. They’ve got the four brackets based on some of the legends in Hip-Hop: The Notorious B.I.G. Bracket, the Tupac Bracket, etc. On the surface it seems cool, right?? WRONG!! Read more

Alright, last time I wrote about my concerns on who would run the rap game when all the greats are too old or not popular enough to continue. Some people loved it, other people hated it, and some people thought I was sleeping on some new up-and-coming artists, like Huey, Webbie, Blu, Dolla, and even Aster Roth! Read more

Roc Nation: Will It Be Different This Time? (by H2O)

July 15, 2008

We’ve all heard that Hov signed a deal with Live Nation, which is called Roc Nation, and this deal will be used to fund all of Jay’s entertainment ventures, like a new record label, also called Roc Nation. This deal was signed back in April, and was reported worth 150 Million DOLLARS! However, for this deal to take effect, Hov will have to finish his contract with Def Jam. If he releases one this year, then he’ll be able to leave Def Jam and being Roc Nation. Read more

Good Songs by Bad Rappers (by H20)

When you name the greats in Hip-Hop, who do you name? 2Pac, Biggie, Jigga, Nasty Nas, Weezy, Outkast, etc. But each and everyone of those artists made a slip-up in their career: 2Pac had fillers on All Eyes on Me (and all of those albums AFTER he died), Biggie had a copule slip-ups on Life After Death, Jigga had Vol. 1, Nas had Nastradamus, Weezy had that “La La” song from C3, and Outkast had that “Mamacita” song, though King Jerm will tell you different. But all of these artists were named great because they came consistent Read more

I was just listening to some music lately, and then it hit me: who’s gonna be runnin’ this rap shit in 10 years? The big name rappers will have most likely retired for good by then: Jay-Z will be pushing almost 50, and all the real rappers will be in their mid-40s at least. I mean, will this stop them from rhymin’? Read more
