Being that I was the one who reviewed Wale’s debut album, Attention Deficit, I guess it’s only right that I get to speak on it’s chart debut (I do all The Numbers Games anyway, but still…). Yea, in this column the whole purpose is to talk about album sales but honestly, Attention Deficit’s 1st week sales don’t tell the whole story. In a recent interview with HoneyMag.com, Wale stated that Interscope only shipped out 30,000 albums. So when you see that he sold 28,000 of the 30,000, that #21 spot could have been higher. Especially when the album is pretty good (3.5 out 5 is pretty good right?).

You see how Beyonce’s I Am…Sasha Fierce shot up 55 spots back into the Top 50? Is she gonna go triple?

Anybody else knew that Wycelf released a retail version of his DJ Drama mixtape, Toussaint St. Jean: From The Hut, To The Projects, To The Mansion? At least 3,000 fans knew. He lands at #171. You can download a free version here.

Another Numbers Game, another day I apologize once again for the lack of reviews. But hey, Michael Jackson is back on top of the charts; that’s something right? Sidenote: We (nappyafro) are gonna get back on our review grizzly. Believe that.

Anywho, the soundtrack to Michael Jackson’s highly successful movie This Is It hits the charts hard and get the #1 spot. It sold about 370,000 albums (Which is crazy). Even in death the King Of Pop is a force to be reckoned with. He even had another album/compilation (Selections From Michael Jackson) debut on the charts this week at #91. Respect.

Brian McKnight comes in at #20 with his 9th album Evolution Of A Man. He did okay and pushed 24,000 units. Even though I knownothing of this album, I can’t hate on the man though; I once went to a Brian McKnight concert.

Triple C’s prove the naysayers wrong and moves over the speculated sales figures predicted by 50 Cent. Custom Cycles & Cars lands and #44 sales 12,000 albums. Not to good? Better than the 4,000 Curtis thought they did.

Shout out to the comments section. We missed the review for Swollen Members. It’s happens (Even though I like Swollen Members the group). Their new album Armed To The Teeth comes in at #146.

I could have sworn Z-Ro’s Cocaine was a mixtape. An official mixtape? It comes in at #147.

That’s all

“Running on fumes but getting the team together.” - Typo King.

Dang homie. I’m really late with this Numbers Game huh? Yea, life sucks. But I’m still here for you and to constantly push my nappyafro Team to a championship (I’m into sport metaphors right now. NBA just started back up, World Series, my greatness in Madden, etc). Enough high stepping to the endzone (See), let’s get at these numbers…

Well, not really. I honestly wanna just talk about one album and that’s Royce Da 5′9″’s Street Hop since it’s the lone Hip-Hop artist debuting in the Top 200 this week. Yea, it only moved 4,600 copies and landed at #111. But if it ever was a time where sales figures don’t match quality, it’s here (Maybe if that Shady Records rumors come true he could get the sales too). The album is great. And DJ Premier is executive producing. What? Are we gonna review it? Hell yeah! Kareem Abdul Jamar, you up partner. Knock it out son.

The rest of the album debuts this week? Not today…

Done. Typo King (I had to bring it back)

It’s time for another edition of The Numbers Game and once again it seems like it’s another slow month in terms of releases. We only have two new Hip-Hop/R&B debuts on the album charts this week. Uh, I really have nothing else to say…let’s look at the numbers…

First up is Mario’s 4th album D.N.A. Off the steam of the Gucci Mane & Sean Garrett assisted single “Break Up”, the album lands at #9 and moves around 31,000 units.

The second debut is a Snoop Dogg (or Snoop Doggy Dogg) album full of unreleased Death Row era tracks called Death Row: The Lost Sessions Vol. 1. Yeah, we didn’t review this album because it’s more of a compilation, but if you miss the early 90’s G-Funk, you probably should give it a listen. It lands at #129 and sells 4,000 copies. Sidenote: Did anybody else catch Snoop on WWE Raw?

This is another one of those weeks where the movement on the charts is really slow (For Hip-Hop at least). We do have some new entries though; two to be exact…

The first debut this week is Fat Joe’s 9th album Jealous Ones Still Envy 2 coming in at #73. I understand that these days album sales are gonna be lower but this is an album that featured such names as Akon, T-Pain, Lil’ Wayne, & Swizz Beatz. You would think it would have done better. Did 50’s antics cause this or help it sell more than it would have? [King Jerm reviewed J.O.S.E. 2, check that out here]

One that we missed reviewing (We may still get it), is Saigon’s Warning Shots 2. Now in this instance, coming in at #170 may be a small win for Sai. This may or may not be considered Saigon’s debut retail album but honestly, I didn’t think it would even make the charts. Now if Turtle was still managing him… (Dated Entourage reference).

Lastly, I guess maybe I should touch on DJ Webstar & Jim Jones album, The Rooftop. You won’t see it on the charts because it didn’t make it. That’s not a diss; I don’t know any sales figures but the last album on this week’s charts sold around 2,000. So The Rooftop had to sell less that that. Damn! Are you really mad we didn’t review that?

Oh yea, Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 went platinum this week. I’m just saying.

#5 Jay-Z/The Blueprint 3 (Last Week: #6) – 64,800; Total: 1,061,600 (Platinum) [5 Weeks]
#13 Whitney Houston/I Look To You (Last Week: #13) – 35,600; Total: 707,400 (Gold) [6 weeks]

I guess we can stop bitching about the lack of Hip-Hop album releases (Well, at least for this week), because we have 7 Hip-Hop debuts on the charts this week. Yeah. I can’t even do any rambling in this intro. Let’s just get to the numbers….

I’m most happy for Kid Cudi this week as his Man On The Moon: The End Of Day moves over a 100,000 units and lands at #4. For a new artist; especially a new Hip-Hop artist, this is great. With all the hype surrounding releases by Jay-Z and Raekwon the prior week, it’s good to see Kid Cudi still rewarded for putting out a good album. [You can read H20's review of Cudi's Man On The Moon here]

Drizzy Drake finally makes his official debut on the charts with his career defining So Far Gone. I previously stated what I felt the retail release of this album, but I guess I now see that selling 70,000 copies of a mixtape that came out for free in the beginning of this year is easy money. This does tell me that Drake has the ability to do some major numbers when Thank Me Later comes out next year. [It's over 8 months old, but you can still read V-G's original review of the So Far Gone mixape here]

I honestly thought Lil’ Boosie’s 2nd studio album Superbad: The Return Of Boosie Bad Azz would do better numbers. Not to say that coming in at #7 is a bad thing, but with the way the leak was handled (Jay-Z should take notes) and Bad Azz’s following, I figured his fans would support better. But this may be smalls potatoes to what Boosie is dealing with right now. [V-G comes through again. Check out his review of Superbad here]

T-Double-D returns to the charts and keeps it thug with his 8th album Finally Famous: Born A Thug, Still A Thug. This album may not grab another plaque for Trick Daddy (Surprisingly he has 6; mostly Platinum); but it’s the first one on his own label Dunk Ryders Records. I guess it’s still a win for the 305. [King Jerm gives Trick his props in his review for Finally Famous here]

Wow. New Boyz almost sold 10,000 albums with their new album Skinny Jeanz And A Mic. Um, I really don’t have too much else to say about this. Maybe I’m too old to “jerk”. [V-G has been on fire recently! He also reviewed Skinny Jeanz And A Mic...even though we didn't ask him too. Look at that here]

KRS-One & Buckshot collaborative effort Survival Skills lands on the charts at #62. Hey, it could have been worse; M.O.P.’s new album Foundation, that didn’t even chart this week. Seeing that the last few releases by both KRS and Buckshot didn’t do this well, 8,600 is sales could be much worse. [Saule Wright schools you youngster with his Survival Skills review here and I draw the short straw on M.O.P.'s Foundation review...here]

The only album we didn’t review this week was Q-Tip’s de-shelved Kamaal The Abstract. You see, we try not to/usually don’t review mixtape, compilations, or re-releases and this album (Which was suppose to come out in 2002) has us confused on what we should do. But hey, what do we know? B-Double (aka Your Favorite White Boy) gives you reasons why you should have already bought that album at his home turf.

And lastly, Jay-Z stays strong at the #1 spot and sells almost 300,000 copies of The Blueprint 3. Can I mention this without being called a stan? Did you also notice that his wife’s album jumped up 15 spots after the Kanye/VMA/Taylor Swift incident? Coincidence? I think not.

“Please don’t bow in my presence/How am I a legend?/I just got 10 number one albums/Maybe now 11?” (From “Thank You” by Jay-Z). I don’t think anyone is surprised that Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 captured the #1 spot on top of the Billboard charts (Now it’s 11). Seeing that this album leaked nearly two weeks prior to the official release, I think selling 476,100 albums in the first week is a win. But I won’t spend too much time on Hova though; We got another important release this week (And some jackasses might start bitching about me giving Jay-Z any props). Note: Jay-Z also came in at #30 because of Def Jam’s re-release of The Blueprint/The Blueprint2 collection. Clap for him.

The other big release this week is by none other that The Chef himself Raekwon. Even though I do a weekly column called The Numbers Game, I really believe that an album’s quality or success shouldn’t be strictly measured in sales. I think as soon as the general consensus came in that Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… PT II was a great album, it is was successful right then and there. Besides that, it didn’t do too bad on the charts either. Coming in at #4 is a really good look for Rae. But it does make me scratch my head that I heard constant “classic” chants about the album last week but you punks couldn’t push the album sales in the 100,000’s. Still good though.
