The Numbers Game: Q-Tip Lands At #11 (by B-Easy)
November 13, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 9 Comments

Not really much to report in this edition of The Numbers Game; I think the real fireworks start in about two weeks when Kanye & Luda drop. But there are a few things going on this week: First off is Q-Tip’s new album The Renaissance almost getting in the Top 10. Even though Thic Saul gave it a great review, I really didn’t think it would chart as high as #11 (It was a good album; I just didn’t think people would care). Read more
Remember When… (by King Jerm)

Do you guys remember when The Diplomats were the hottest crew in Hip-Hop a few years back? Think about it, Cam’ron, Jim Jones, and Juelz were damn near household names. I never knew what Jim Jones did, but I damn sure knew his name. They had a 2Pac-like following, the base of their support was the 15-21 crowd. Read more
Kanye Leaks (by King Jerm)

With all of the leaks that have been springing up lately, you didn’t think that Marty McFly was going to escape untouched did you? Artists may as well get used to what is going on. No, it isn’t fair to them, but you have to love the fact that people want to hear your music that bad. Read more
Rappers Who Should Have Movies Based On Their Lives (by B-Easy & King Jerm)
November 10, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 12 Comments

With The Notorious B.I.G. biographical film Notorious scheduled for release on January 2009, the obvious discussion comes up about what other rappers have big screen worthy life stories. I mean, we kinda had that with 8 Mile & Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. But those movies where loosely based on the lives of 50 Cent & Eminem; that’s also the same case with Krush Groove. I won’t even get into VH1’s Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story. Read more
iPod Hustle: Hova & Electronica (by B-Easy)

If there’s one thing to make me do a post on Saturday, it’s a new Jay-Z song (Did you really think I wouldn’t write about it? Really?). In this iPod Hustle I actually feature 3 Jay songs; 2 from Jay-Z and 1 from Jay Electronica. Man, I just realized that this my second iPod Hustle in like two days. I’m doing it like that? Nah, y’all punks don’t care; I do it for the love. It’s too early; I’m just rambling now. Music please… Read more
Friday Night ‘Fro: “Pulp Fiction” (by B-Easy)
November 7, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · Leave a Comment

I hope I didn’t fool anybody with the title of this post; this has nothing to do with the movie that revived John Travolta’s career (I do love that movie Pulp Fiction though). I think I’m just gonna throw up some random title so every Friday Night ‘Fro won’t be just called…Friday Night ‘Fro. I’m not gonna be to long today; it is Friday after all. Read more

It’s Thursday again. For those who don’t know (or care) what that means here at nappyafro, it’s time for the weekly Numbers Games. Now look, we all know that you can get your Hip-Hop/R&B album sales elsewhere. But hopefully, you come here for my awesome & insightful commentary on the fiscal landscape of our culture…okay, forget that shit. Hey, it’s just a place where I tell you if Jeezy’s new album went Gold or Read more
iPod Hustle: Phonte Sings (by B-Easy)
November 6, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 4 Comments

These days it seems like a number of MC’s are putting aside dope lyrics for soulful melodies. Maybe it’s for that “Beyonce” money or maybe it’s to show versatility, but a lot of rappers like Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Wayne & Kanye West, are moonlighting as R&B singers. While most of these attempts seem more like novelty, there is one MC that makes the transition seem effortless Read more
LupE.N.D. Announced! (by H20)

When I heard Lupe’s last album The Cool, I knew then and there, and even now that Lupe was/is one of the best doing it. I was also almost heartbroken when I heard that he was retiring seemingly in his prime: his first album had critics screaming it was a classic, and it was so heavily anticipated it leaked a year before: think Tha Carter III, only worse Read more
Friday Night ‘Fro: The Premiere (by B-Easy)

We kicked this idea around for like 2 weeks; have a Friday specific column that we put up videos in (It seems like we kinda slack off on this day). What kind of videos? Whatever we like: movies, trailers, music videos, just whatever we want. It doesn’t necessarily have to be directly related to Hip-Hop. Read more
