Bottom Line:
It’s an all around good album. I would buy this. You should buy this. If you don’t have the money (and I know we all struggling right about now), download it save up for it. He really showed out on this one.

“The Theory Of Evolution” by Dark Angel

Robin Thicke The Evolution of Robin Thicke (Star Trak/Interscope)

Released: October 3, 2006

You know, I think Robin Thicke is one of those kinds of artist who are very talented but really over looked. I know if my boyfriend wouldn’t have told me about this album, I would have never heard of it. What were my 1st thoughts before I listened to it? “Couldn’t be that bad, but then again, I didn’t hear about it being number one on the charts!” Well, here goes nothing:

GOT 2 BE DOWN (feat. Faith Evans)
Hmm, I like the beat; very smooth and laid back with a little hip-ness! Looks like he’s off to a good start. And I think he scored some points with a couple of R&B fans by featuring Faith Evans on this song. Good move! Check this!

COMPLICATED
Reminds me of a musical; like a Disney movie in the 90’s. But I have to say, I have a soft spot in my heart for this one. I’m glad he’s admitting he’s too complicated and wishes he can change some of his ways. Ay guys, maybe you outta take some tips from Mr. Thicke! I Like it!

WOULD THAT MAKE YOU LOVE ME
He sounds like Justin Timberlake on this one, but then again, if you were to listen to this whole album without knowing who this was, you’d think it was JT too. I like it. Good traveling music or something to listen to while you’re chillin’. Check it out!

LOST WITHOUT U
This is my favorite out of the whole album. Don’t get my wrong, this whole CD is bangin’ …so far, but I’m in love with this song! It’s very laid back, smooth, not too much going on, and it kinda has a Latin feel to it. What’s wrong with a man saying how he really feels about his woman? Damn, Rob be schooling ya’ll!

ASK MYSELF
Geez, this sounds like another Justin Timberlake song or boy band song. It’s not that bad, though if you like that kind of stuff. This one is ok…

ALL NIGHT LONG (feat. Lil’ Wayne)
A song with Lil’ Wayne; Hmm, this song sounds commercial and a little out of his character. (Don’t try too hard, Rob!) And I think he may have stolen this beat from Fabulous! Not my favorite. Skip!

EVERYTHING I CAN’T HAVE
We went back to the golden age, huh? This can grow on ya. The horns and instruments makes you feel like you’re at a 30’s club with a live band. I’ll listen to it if I wanna do the tango or the swing. Hmmm, I’ll skip.

TEACH U A LESSON
Ahh, back to the old Rob: smooth, cool, and all about the ladies. I like this one. He’s telling his girl she’s been a bad girl and he’s gonna “teach her a lesson”. Sounds like another song you’ll here at Starbucks. Check it out!

I NEED LOVE
Whoa! This is jazzy! I’m lovin’ this one too! He’s really hitting some notes. I like the mood of this song. Light the candles for this one!

WANNA LOVE U GIRL (feat. Pharrell)
I actually hated the hook to this song. It’s laid back like the rest of the album and he has Pharrell featured on here. I guess it’s ok, but once again, not my favorite. Skip! (Sorry Rob.)

CAN U BELIEVE
Sounds like across between a church classic and a Christmas song. I think I can do business with this one. He’s showing he can really sing, too. I like! Check it!

SHOOTER (feat. Lil’ Wayne)
Twice in one album, Lil’ Wayne is at it again. This is also on Lil’ Wayne’s album Tha Carter II.  I can’t really hate this song. I like the beat. The mood of the song is chill. You can lay ya head back to this one and hit up some of that good with your boys (Or something like that.). I’ll keep it.

COCAINE
Why Rob!? Did you have to go there? I can’t get “jiggy” with this one. I’m sorry. However, I do like the beat. But I’m skipping this one!

2 THE SKY
I think I like this song, too. It’s slow and soulful. You might hear this in a mellow place or a lounge. It does have a breakdown or two. Yea, check it!

LONELY WORLD
Hmmm, sounds like something that would be the Free Willy soundtrack. Not a bad song, but not really something you can listen to and chill with that someone special. I skip it.

ANGELS
Another slow, smooth ballad from Mr. Thicke! I like it. I’m not in love with it, though. It’s quiet, long, and the whole song is played on piano. Listen to this when you have some spare time and in the mood for a slow song. I’ll say its “Ordinary People”, the Robin Thicke way. But I still skip it.

Bottom line:
It’s an all around good album. I would buy this. You should buy this. If you don’t have the money (and I know we all struggling right about now), download it save up for it. He really showed out on this one.

nappy Picks: If you a R&B fan, you need to buy this album.

*2nd Opinion:

B-Easy: You know I always like to give shine to a “sleeper album”. Shit, I’ve been down with Thicke since he had long hair and was a bike messenger on the video for “When I Get You Alone”. The best R&B album of 2006.
Rating: 4 Stars

King Jerm: Man another sleeper; this album is one of those smooth albums you put on and cruise the city with your chick, or clean up the house while it’s on, or just sit back and relax and just listen to Mr. Thicke croon.
