Notable Tracks: The Notorious B.I.G., Khruangbin, Rich Brian, & Missy Elliott

You know, I have been trying to figure out a new name for this thing where I talk about a few (or more) random songs. I have been doing this format for years (Look back in the archives for more proof that I’m old as fuck). Either way, Notable Tracks may be the new name since Playlists are basically Short-T’s thing now. So without further ado…

The Notorious B.I.G. – “Bastard Child”

Statik Selektah was bored last Sunday so he put a beat to some rare and unreleased verses from the late great Notorious B.I.G. I’ve have been called a Hip-Hop nerd a few times in my life so I recognized the first verse from an old Biggie freestyle with the second verse more popularly known for being used on “Dead Wrong”. Either, this shit is nice and I hope making new beats for legendary and deceased rappers becomes a thing.

Khruangbin – “Time (You and I)”

Right after making me take notice from an appearance on Jay Electronica’s A Written Testimony via “A.P.I.D.T.A.”, Khruangbin return with maybe the best music video of 2020 with “Time (You and I)”. I’m not gonna do it justice by trying to describe it, but I’ll never be as cool as wearing a pink suit jacket and making sand castles in random places.

Rich Brain – “Kids”

You can find song in the most random places. I first heard Rich Brian‘s “Kids” recently while watching The Invisible Man. This song came out in 2019 on Brian’s album Sailor. I say that because I haven’t really gave him a listen since “Dat $tick” came out and he was still called Rich Chigga. If this the type of music he has been making, maybe it’s time I check back in on him.

Missy Elliott – “Funkmaster Flex Freestyle”

For whatever reason this song was in my head all last week. That’s weird because the last time I heard it the year was probably 1997 when I bought Funkmaster Flex’s The Mix Tape, Vol. 2: 60 Minutes Of Funk. Either way, here is Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott spitting over Wu-Tang’s “Triumph”. That’s all.
