R&B Monday: Johntá Austin

Last night featured my favorite Instagram Live Battle so far. R&B songwriters Ne-Yo and Johntá Austin entered the battle with 20 of their songs and it was lit. Of course, Ne-Yo was the crowd favorite being that he played his own classic R&B songs like “Sexy Love” and  “So Sick,” but underdog Johntá pulled a Clinton Sparks and got everyone familiar with his pen. From Tyrese’s “Sweet Lady” to Bryson Tiller’s “Don’t,” which features an interpolation of Mariah Carey’s “Shake It Off,” co-written by Mr. Austin. We traveled over the course of decades of R&B music gifted to us over an hour long friendly match on IG.  Enjoy “Still Mine” off his 2019 album, Love, Sex & Religion. Enjoy the week.
