The Final Girls
Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson | 2015
Comedy in horror films is underrated. I would not be able to be sitting for an hour watching intense tension without a moment to relax. There’s nothing wrong with laughing in between serious moments. Shaun Of The Dead, Zombieland, Cooties, Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse, and 2017’s IT all have intense moments of terror but are also hilarious.

A young woman and her friends escape a burning movie theater and are transported into the 80’s slasher film starring her recently-deceased mother. I love the concept and I love me some Alia Shawkat. Todd Strauss-Schulson’s film effortlessly switches genres with scenes of a woman emotionally connecting with a fictional character that resembles her mother, Adam Devine overcompensating his masculinity by 1980’s standards, and a rip-off of Jason Voorhees. ~ Short-T
