Godz Chyld – Reborn [Review]

Straight out of the New York, the Bronx to be exact, comes a young MC by the name of Godz Chyld, dropping off his latest EP titled Reborn for your audible pleasures. NY has been real quiet on the music scene but lately things have turned around for the Empire State. NY has been in the midst of an identity crisis with other regions sound being adapted by the home team. Where is the NY music? I have a feeling that Godz Chyld is trying to restore the feeling with this EP. Let’s check it out and see!

1. True and Livin’
Produced by Jordan River Banks
First song in and you can hear REAL NY RAP. Godz Chyld is giving you a heavy dose of lyricism and the production sends you to the glory days of NY Hip-Hop. Not a bad start to the album.

2. Blue Flame
Featuring Loaded Lux; Produced by Jordan River Banks
No this is not homage to the strip club in ATL, but letting the listeners know that he spitting that HEAT! It’s nice to see Lux in another avenue than battle rapping. I really like the production on this one.

3. Blue Flame Pt. II
Produced by Jordan River Banks
This was just a short song that was a continuation of the previous. Once again, Godz Chyld showed his lyrical skills in 45 seconds. I would like to hear more of this one. It was short but it was sweet.

4. Crazy
Produced by Jordan River Banks
This production on this one makes you think of jumping on the subway on a cold NY morning. One thing to note here is that Godz Chyld has BARS. He is making easy work of this production.

5. Godz Speak
Featuring Killah Priest; Produced by Jordan River Banks
This time he shares the spotlight with Wu affiliate Killah Priest on this one that will sure to make the fans of the 90s NY Hip-Hop happy. I have to say the production throughout this project has been solid. Godz Chyld held his own on the track with the Hip-Hop vet. It was nice to hear from Killah Priest since we haven’t heard from him in a while.

6. Watch Me Rise
Produced by Jordan River Banks
Godz Chyld did his thing on one. He got that throwback feel to him that most of these artists today don’t do. The production had that gritty 90s vibe to it that will excite the purists.

BOTTOM LINE:
I have to say that Godz Chyld is pretty nice with the rhymes and has a grasp on what he brings to the game. However, in today’s shaky climate, how will that play out? I can see him making some noise in the game just because of his throwback sound. The Hip-Hop “purists” and people that love to listen to 90’s NY Hip-Hop will respect what he’s trying to do on this project Reborn. Just think if he links up with some of classic producers from the 90’s and makes some cuts. It could be pretty dope. He kept your attention with the lyrics and the production was above average.
