Album Sales: Drake Finally Falls + Maxwell, Logic, Desiigner, & Snoop Dogg Debut

It’s been a while since I’ve done a column for The Numbers Game (which I just call Album Sales now because of SEO shit). And because of that, I missed most of Drake‘s historic run at the top of the Biilboard charts with VIEWS. And sadly, I’m coming back in at the end of it.

After a nine-week streak as the #1 album in the country, and being only behind Vanilla Ice’s To The Extreme and MC Hammer’s Please Hammer Don’t Hurt Him with the most weeks at the top of the chart, VIEWS gets knocked for the out by Blink-182’s new album California. No, it’s not 1999 again even though the world is playing Pokemon Go. Either way, it was good run for Drizzy. VIEWS sold 117,300 copies this week and grabs the #2 spot.

I don’t understand how Maxwell has one album from 2009 called BLACKsummers’night and now a new album titled blackSUMMERS’night (And I assume a third upcoming album called blacksummers’NIGHT?). Thankfully his core audience isn’t easily confused as me because blackSUMMERS’night (the latest one) lands at #3 and sells 59,000 units in it’s first week.

Logic dropped a surprise album last week with Bobby Tarantino. And while I hate that title, I still mostly fuck with Logic’s music. And I’m not the only one. Logic’s surprise album went on to sell 19,000 albums and lands at the #16 position on the charts.

The conversation about Desiigner is still going on in Hip-Hop circles and his first body of work new retail mixtape New English is maybe a barometer on his popularity and place in the culture. Or not. New English landed at #22 and sells over 15,000 units although all of that comes from streaming (1,500 Streams = One Album Sales). Take that for what you will. (*insert Desiigner ad-libs here*)

And lastly, Snoop Dogg‘s 14th album, Coolaid, came out last week with little fanfare. I only knew about it because I’m always on the Internet and I don’t have a life (Plus it has a few tracks produced by Just Blaze). Either way, his album Coolaid lands at the #40 spot and sells around 11,000 units. In happier news, I hear Snoop was pretty good on Celebrity Family Feud.
