A Zip And A Double-Click

A ton of great Hip-Hop is constantly being given away for free online. Current superstars like Lil’ Wayne and Wiz Khalifa built their careers on internet mixtapes. A Zip & A Double-Click is a new column here at nappyafro that is dedicated to covering everything that’s happening on the mixtape circuit, and then giving you a comprehensive update and the end of each month. This column will let you know what’s overhyped and what’s worth checking out.

January is usually the slowest month of the year when it comes to album releases, and this year was no exception. A$AP Rocky’s debut project was the only big-name rap album to come out the entire month. But in the world of free rap mixtapes, it seemed like the typical endless stream of newly released projects hardly let up. So let’s get started on the reviews and recommendations.

That CyHi mixtape was surprisingly good.

I’m not falling for that one again…

I agree with you on Rockie Fresh hard, but I really enjoyed both Master P’s release (particularly all of Fat Trel’s appearances) and Future’s release. I also still think Casey Veggies is one of the most boringest rappers ever.
