The Numbers Game: Tha Carter IV Goes Platinum + Bad Meets Evil Goes Gold

Yeah, that picture up above is still funny to me. But then again, Lil’ Wayne still has reason to jump for joy. In what was basically a foregone conclusion last week, Tha Carter IV goes ahead and “offcially” crosses the million mark to add yet another another Platinum plaque to Tunechi’s collection.

But Weezy’s isn’t the only person geting hardware this week as Royce Da 5’9″ & Eminem (aka Bad Meets Evil) see their album, Hell: The Sequel, grab a Gold plaque. Of course Eminem wipes his ass with Gold plaques, but I’m happy for Royce since this is his first one ever.

Other than that, all is kinda quiet on the album release front (Other than Cole World dropping in a couple of weeks). Check out the full sales figures below.

Hip-Hop/R&B album sales for the week of 9/6/11

  • Atmosphere

Expected Wayne to sell like 400k atleast

    • Yea, that is a 77% drop from last week. It’s almost like somebody padded those numbers up last week. I’m not saying Birdman bought some Carter IV albums but….Birdman bought some Carter IV albums.

      • Atmosphere

thats a huge drop. If Birdman didnt buy those albums then the sales drop would have drop a little more steady. There’s no hate in that at all, thats the truth

    stop hatin b-easy

    • Hey, I’m just sayin…

Birdman definitely pushed the numbers in the first week. This is almost conclusive evidence. A 77% drop is RARE. Even for a significant debut. If 964k genuinely purchased it in the albums first week of release, it should have been able to push ~ 300-320k in its 2nd week. Which it didn’t.

A second week at 218k is more indicative of an album that would have debuted with ~ 700k (which is still huge).

This will rapidly fall behind the pace of Recovery. Recovery did 313k in its 2nd week and 229k in its 3rd week.

Even if Birdman pushed ~ 200k onto it’s total in the first week, Lil Wayne should be happy. Tha Carter IV will probably top out at about ~ 3 million when all is said and done.

  • He got a publicity push from the VMAs dummies. Yall too ready to hate lol

@ Vic D yea they hatin hard

  • saule wright

I say that drop is due to folks buying the shit and realizing AND spreading the word that it ain’t worth buying.

I like the Carter IV, but yeah it wasn’t platinum 2 week status thought. I like R.E.D album more, but they didn’t push units out here in Cali. It was like it was sold out everywhere, come to find out places only got like 100 copies at a time. I dunno, seems like a conspiracy with this Carter IV joint. Wayne does his thing but I don’t know what he is anymore. Is he a blood, skateboarder, rocker, rapper, chef…I just don’t know.
