The Numbers Game: Game Is #1

B-Easy August 31, 2011 10

Game literally leads the charts this week as his R.E.D. Album grabs the #1 spot narrowly beating out Jay-Z & Kanye‘s Watch The Throne. While The R.E.D. Album‘s first week sales (97,000) don’t match up to Game’s last album (LAX did around 240K), this does mark his 3rd #1 album on the Billboards. Of course Game took to Twitter to celebrate:

“R.E.D. album #1 in the world ! 96,418 copies sold in the U.S.. 47,016 in Canada… 68,135 in Europe.. 16,003 in Asia … & 42,801 in Aus !!!,”

The real story of the week may be seeing if Lil’ Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV will make it to 1,000,000 sales in one week (The album is currently projected to sell 850,000 copies). We’ll see the final numbers next week as well as if the MTV VMA’s gave any other artists a boost in album sales.

Hip-Hop/R&B album sales for the week of 8/23/11

  • Atmosphere

sad when someone like the game only does that much his first week

  • P-Body

I have to agree with Atmosphere. I kinda figured it would not sell a lot of albums the first week since folks wasn’t anticipating on the album… Then it took a while for it to come out.

    • Atmosphere

yeah he was talking about the red album for over a year when he dropped the red room mix tape. so the hype died down. He needed a stronger single honestly

  • DJ LP

Are we really surprised that the album did that poorly for being that good?

For example…how many of YOU guys purchased the album? Now apply that across the board

    • P-Body

You’re right though… I didn’t buy it. It’s good but I’m budgeting right now. Honestly though a lot of albums nowadays aren’t enough for me to actually spend my hard earn money on. If they released Pac album I will definitely buy that and I’ll probably buy Nas, & Outkast whenever they drop.

      • Eagle Eye

I agree.I’m going to get the album in the next few weeks. Good album. Not suprised by his #’s at all – but solid.

  • Mr. Jones

i didn’t know it’d sell about that much.

No offence to game but it is surprising that his fourth album sold more then eminem, Royce da 59, boyonce, jay z, and kanye west but I am sure Wayne is going to do higher numbers unfortunately.

    • DJ LP

It sold more than Eminem and Royce because they went under the name Bad Meets Evil. Lot of people didn’t know about the group until lighters came out as a single

    • Rickjamesbitch

How is that suprising? Royce and Em’s album has been out for over 2 months and WTT has been out for 3 weeks…
