Song of the Week: DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince – “Summertime”
You guys knew it was coming sooner or later didn’t you? You can’t begin the greatest season of them all without this song! “Summertime” will always bring memories of playing basketball, washing your car, checking out the honey’s, BBQing, or family gatherings whenever it comes on. From the “Drums Please” to the use of Kool and the Gang’s “Summer Madness” on the sample..the song had CLASSIC written on it from the jump! A lot of people give Will Smith hate for still kicking a rhyme every now and then, but back in the day…Will was pretty nice on the mic. You youngins need to do some research on Big Will, he has some classics under his belt. This song is TIMELESS, but I don’t have to tell you that…you already know. Excellent pick KJ! One of my all-time favorite Hip-Hop songs. This was actually the first Hip-Hop song I ever heard when I was 4 years old from my older brother’s CD maxi single… This song made me fall in love with H.E.R. Definitely the perfect song for the summer.
