Song of the Week: Jadakiss feat. Styles P – “We Gonna Make It”

jadakiss

How time flies? It seems like yesterday the Ruff Ryders were a powerhouse in Hip-Hop, with the downfall of DMX, the accident of Dee (founder of Ruff Ryders), the disappearance of Eve, the Double R camp just couldn’t get a break. While they did fall on bad times, thing were’nt always like this. At one point in time the LOX were the most sought after free agents in Hip-Hop. One of the reasons why they were such a prized catch was because of the baby faced gangsta with the raspy flow, Jadakiss. Jada has always been mentioned with the best when talking about lyrics, but he never lived up to the billing sales wise. Everybody knows that Jada got the master flow fast or slow (except B-Easy) but for this SOTW I wanted to bring back one of his best songs. On this this track you have a gem delivered by The Alchemist (who caught beef from Ras Kass over the track) and you have Jada and Styles doing their trademark back and forth flow. If you don’t like this song…you might need to check yourself in the hospital! So kick back and enjoy this installment of Song of the Week!

The most opinionated of the group (Probably sometimes the biggest jackass too). Urban legend has it that he used to have a dying love for “project chicks”. Claims to have never listened to nothing but Hip-Hop. Sports (like most of us) comes a close second to Hip-Hop.

    good call. i still enjoy this. it was an interesting time in hip hop (circa 01-02′?) kinda when new york was still relevant, but the south was slowly gaining its popularity

    @TS
    the south was coming up in the 90′s man with the likes of Outkast, Goodie Mob, No Limit, Geto Boys, Slip N Slide, Cash Money, Suave House, Three 6 Mafia.. By 01-02 Lil John was definitely making noise, Ludacris, Dungeon Family, Scarface dropped The Fix, Hot Boys was still around but then again they wasn’t, but the south was definitely gaining its popularity.

    This is one of the best Jadakiss songs out. One of my favorite and Alchemist got down with the samples! Omgness he is a good producer and underrated. I wanna some new shit from Alchemist.

    “we…gon…make…it/ we gon make it/ we gon make it”

    This is Jada’s best IMO. I remember when this came out back in 2001. I had just gotten my first car but couldn’t drive it since i didn’t have a license. BUT i copped Jada’s debut popped it in the cd player and washed my car like 177673 times that week just listening to it!
