November 28, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 2 Comments

Yeah, you on the right site. Question: What do you do when you have to an hour & 1/2 drive ahead of you but you also have to make a Friday Night ‘Fro post? I’d put up one of my all time favorites: Kill Bill. These 2 movies combines some of my favorite things (Karate flicks, anime, Hip-Hop inspired soundtracks, women fighting each other, etc). So yeah, for the first time we doing a Friday Night ‘Fro with barely no Hip-Hop Read more

E-40|The Ball Street Journal (by King Jerm)

November 28, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 15 Comments

One thing about E-40 is that he never compromised his sound one bit. The 40 we are getting now is the same 40 we were getting back in the day. This time a little older, a little wiser and hella paid. The West Coast vet has been in the game nearly twenty years and has managed to stay relevant in a fragile Hip-Hop state. That just shows you how much of a hustle it takes to make it that long. To top it off, try doing that as Read more

The Numbers Game: Beyoncé Is #1 (by B-Easy)

November 27, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 8 Comments

Did anybody think Beyoncé wasn’t gonna get the #1 spot this week? I mean, this is her third straight #1 album. But don’t ask me about how I Am…Sasha Fierce sounds; I only heard the songs played on the radio (I asked my girl and she mumbled something about bullshit and walked off). Well, I do think Mrs. Hova will do better than Usher. Ace Hood debuts on the charts this week and does exactly what I thought he would: he Read more

Song of the Week: Jay-Z - “Imaginary Player” (by King Jerm)

November 26, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 16 Comments

Well with this installment of Song of the Week, I decided to point out something that was emailed me the other day. My boy Guy Fawkes told me about this certain website that was swagger jacking the Fro! I was going to let this slide because imagery is the biggest form of flattery, but I just couldn’t keep quiet about this. Read more

The mixtape that all you guys have been waiting on is finally here and we have it on nappyafro! Chamillionaire returns with his Mixtape Messiah series (this time for free) looking to get his spot back in the game. Chamillionaire is one of the best lyricists out of Houston, and one of the last one standing out of the H-Town blitz that hit the Hip-Hop scene way back in 2005. Read more

Ludacris|Theater Of The Mind (by Guy Fawkes)

November 25, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 47 Comments

How do you label Ludacris? Is he a southern rapper? Is he a Hip-Hop mogul? Is he a rapper-turned actor? To me Luda is all of these, and none of these. When you think southern rap, you think of guys like Shawty LO, Soulja Boy, & Gucci Mane. I hope everyone can agree that Ludacris is on another level compared to those dudes. When I think of the word mogul, I imagine Russell Simmons, Jay-Z, & Suge Knight. These are people Read more

Kanye West|808’s & Heartbreak (by H20)

November 24, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 54 Comments

Mr. West has tried to diversify his music for most of his career; The College Dropout was a Hip-Hop record with the sampling and soul music of The Blueprint, Late Registration was the album where his production took center-stage, while his rapping was still great. Graduation is where Kanye really started killing it with lyrics that were just out of here! And now, he’s decided to sing an entire album T-Pain style. Read more

Friday Night ‘Fro: “Martin & Soulja Boy” (by King Jerm)

November 21, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 3 Comments

Well I’m back again for this week’s version of Friday Night ‘Fro! This week I wanted to grant a request from two people, B-Easy and P-Body. Easy and P-Body wanted me to show some love to Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em’s new video, which they both love so much. You know I like giving the fans what they want, so here it goes! Read more

The Numbers Game: T-Pain Debuts At #4 (by B-Easy)

November 20, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 28 Comments

If the image here isn’t sign enough, T-Pain’s third album Thr33 Ringz debuted this week at #4 selling about 160,000 copies…160,000 copies? I guess that’s not bad for today’s market, but seeing at how much I’ve been seeing Teddy Penderazdoun lately I guess I expected more. Plus the #4 seems kinda low too (But then again, T-pain did get outsold by Taylor Swift, David Archuletta, & Now That’s What I Call Music 29). Read more

iPod Hustle: Norah Jones + Hip-Hop (by B-Easy)

November 19, 2008 by nappyafro.com Staff · 8 Comments

Norah Jones? Norah f*ckng Jones? That smooth-jazz mellow white girl that sings, plays instruments, and is prominently featured on “easy listening” radio stations? Yea, B-Easy has finally lost his mind. Well not really; if you remember last year I did do a whole thing on Chris Martin’s role on tracks by Jay-Z, Kanye West, & Swizz Beatz. Is this really that different? I could be wrong about this, but when it comes to cameos on Read more
