Three 6 Mafia|Last 2 Walk (by King Jerm)

June 30, 2008

last2walkcover.jpg

Since Hustle & Flow earned Three Six Mafia an Oscar, things have been on the up and up. Now the only two remaining members, Juicy J and DJ Paul look to continue the string of hits. Things are a little different now, not only are these guys Oscar winners, but they are also reality TV stars, so they are reaching a different audience now. Hopefully going Hollywood or should I say HollyHood, doesn’t water down the Three Six sound. Read more

Jay-Z Performs At Glastonbury (by B-Easy)

June 29, 2008

jay-zatglastonbury.jpg

As many of you have probably already heard, Jay-Z performed at the 2008 Glastonbury music festival this weekend (That’s a small town in England people). Despite critics and Noel Gallagher, Jay-Z actually brought the house down. Jigga began the show strumming a guitar, rocking a scarf, and singing Oasis’ “Wonderwall” (Gallagher’s band). Read more

New Songs From The New Nas Album (by B-Easy)

June 27, 2008

nasuntitledtracks.jpg

If you heard any of my statements about the new Nas album, you know that I’m really excited about it. Whether it’s called Nigger or Untitled doesn’t matter to me; I just know that what I’ve heard so far is good. Well, a couple of Nas tracks “leaked” today to my much delight and it’s more of the same. Jacki-O Goes In (by King Jerm)

June 27, 2008

jackieoresponds.jpg

I know this is the first time I’ve mentioned Jacki-O on nappyafro, but I had to let this be heard to our readers. Jacki aired the dude Brisco out! Apparently Brisco threatened to “slap the shit” out of her at Weezy’s video shoot. Damn, it’s like that? Read more

RZA|Digi Snacks (by King Jerm)

June 27, 2008

digisnackscover.jpg

While Hip-Hop used to be his only hustle, now RZA is making more noise in Hollywood with his sound. However he hasn’t forgot about his fans. Dropping his fourth solo album, Digi Snacks, RZA looks to capitalize on the shaky market. RZA already has a Platinum and Gold plaque for two previous efforts; can he strike Gold again with Digi Snacks? Read more

Immortal Technique|The 3rd World (by Thic Flair)

June 26, 2008

the3rdworldcover.jpg

He’s probably the most decorated unheard of rapper in the history of Hip-Hop. He also is very angry. Immortal Technique IS the mad rapper. He’s not mad from hate, but mad about the state of all things political. Tech makes his moves on the underground scene with songs and topics that are usually too socially risky for radio. With the title of The 3rd World, I wonder if this is more of the same. Read more

The Numbers Game: Weezy Keeps At It (by B-Easy)

June 26, 2008

weezybetawards2008numbers.jpg

Damn, I thought we was gonna take a break from posting Lil’ Wayne on the front page. I guess you can’t stop the inevitable since no other releases really made an impact this week. But then again, 2 Pistols and Blood Raw didn’t do too bad with both debut albums. Read more

Wu-Tang Clan|Enter The Wu-Tang [1993] (by King Jerm)

June 25, 2008

enterthewuclassic.jpg

Released in 1993 during the East Coast Renaissance, a time which we saw Das EFX, Black Moon, Nas, Onyx, and many other NY groups were ushering in a new era in Hip-Hop. But no one was prepared for the worldwide impact of the Wu-Tang Clan. Boasting 9 members, RZA, GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, U-God, Masta Killa, and last but not least Method Man. Read more

Song of the Week: Young Jeezy feat. Various Artists - “Soul Survivor” (remix) (by Thic Flair)

June 25, 2008

soulsuvivorvideo.jpg

Jeezy isn’t on my top spins list, but his adlibs are some of the best in the biz and he makes some decent songs. Couple that with Akon who has one of the most annoying and identifiable voices in history…but that man can put together a song. This weeks SOTW has them teaming up with Shabba Ranks, Sizzla, Jeezy, and Vybez Kartel on a remix of “Soul Survivor”. Read more

BET Awards ‘08 Wrap-Up (by B-Easy)

June 25, 2008

tpainrehearsal.jpg

Well, I just got finished watching the 2008 BET Awards with King Jerm and Slik P. It was okay for BET; good to see Black people together at an award show without someone getting punched or stabbed (Just joking…kinda). I’m not going to recap the whole show, just the good parts and all the Hip-Hop/Rap parts. Read more
