Songs of the Week: The Notorious B.I.G. – “Deadly Combination” feat. Big L & 2Pac, “Niggaz Bleed (Remix)”, & “Who Shot Ya/Cocaine”

We are a few days past the anniversary, for lack of a better word, of the murder of Biggie Smalls. It’s hard to really understand his impact when you look at him on paper. 2 albums, some cameos, that’s what we got. However, he didn’t use paper to write rhymes nor should we evaluate his impact, on paper. His ability and presence was undeniable. His mark has been left on the game and is regarded by most at least a top 10 emcee, some still say he is the best of all time. There have been a few mash-ups and things done and for the Song of the Week this week, I wanted to drop 3 on you that I think are fantastic. Two are from the March 9 album. The name of the first song is “Deadly Combination” and it features 2Pac and Big L. The other from this album is “Niggaz Bleed” which is over the infamous “Streight Up Menace” beat; FIRE!!!!! The third track is from a creative mash up of Jimi Hendrix and Biggie Smalls called the Biggie Hendrix Experience by Dj Doc Roc; the song, “Who Shot Ya/Cocaine”. Damn. I blast the hell out of both of these CDs and I hope that you enjoy them as this weeks, Song of the Week. Peace.
